Osman lived on an island with his grandfather, Mr. Şener. He had lost his family long ago on a car crash, and settled with his grandfather afterwards. Mr. Şener was a fisherman. He would go fishing with his small boat and catch what the sea was ready to give. His wife had died too. That was a serious blow at first. They had been married for fifty years, during which they never had a quarrel. In time, however, he got used to her absence. It was true that those happy days with his beloved wife were past, but he wasn’t. He had more to live yet.

Sudden and terrible death of his parents was a hard blow for Osman, too. But he got used to it, as well. Time heals all wounds. Like Mr. Şener, he came to understood that life went on.

Now they were two men; one young, the other old.

Osman had always been interested in his grandfather’s past. And Mr. Şener liked telling him stories of his younger days. These stories affected Osman deeply and he wanted to be a man like his grandfather. For this reason, he left school after his parentsdeath and was happy to settle with Mr. Şener.

He often went fishing with him although it was difficult and tiring. In the evening they would fry the fish and eat it with salad. After that they often sang. They would also go for a walk around the island in spring and summer. Theirs was a happy island which was surrounded not only by the sea but also by peace.
